Yoshiro was raised by the monastic Order of Dai Bendu. It is said that he was found on the steps of their temple when only a child, left to the care of the monks by parents who did not have the means to take care of him. Many families made their home in the monastery, so Yoshiro was not without friends or peers. Like the other children, he was raised to follow the path of the Bendu, whose non-confrontational beliefs advocated the unification of the galaxy through the Force. Alongside learning the philosophy of the monks, Yoshiro was also taught how to fight, strengthening his body and mind.

Life at the temple was peaceful, until one day a stranger arrived. The man said his name was Thanatos - death itself. He attacked the Dai Bendu temple and although met with resistance, left the monks with many casualties. Huo Niao, one of the oldest masters of the temple, became engaged in combat with Thanatos. Seeking to aid the great sensei, Yoshiro came to his side. Young and inexperienced, he was no match for such a powerful opponent. With one deft strike, the stranger severed Yoshiro's right arm – yet, poised for the killing blow, he hesitated. Yoshiro would live to see another day.

Weeks later, as Yohsiro's wounds began to heal, the dying Huo Niao confided in the young monk. Though Yoshiro's actions had been foolish, the Force had spared him; life had more in store for him. Huo Niao then gave Yoshiro a lightsaber, the weapon of a Jedi. He told him that it had been the only object with him when the monks had found him so many years ago. He explained that the man who had come to the temple, who had called himself Thanatos, was of the Sith. His presence there could mean only one thing, Huo Niao, said – that Yoshiro must leave. It was time for him to realize the destiny that the Force had planned for him.
